Unit - Using Acceptable Use Policies as an Educational Tool (6-12)

Acceptable Use Policies are often written in complex legal language. Given that students and parents are responsible for knowing, understanding and agreeing to follow school policies and procedures, this unit aims to familiarize students with the school's AUP. Students examine school guidelines for responsible use of educational technology, consequences for irresponsible choices and procedures for responding to unsafe and inappropriate situations. They then collaborate in projects that promote responsible use of educational technology at school and at home. Visit isafedirect.com for more info.

Lesson - Know Your Code of Conduct

Students come to understand that technology guidelines protect students' rights to a safe and effective learning environment. Students participate in an anonymous survey regarding educational technology and responsible use. They then discuss the survey responses as a class. Students review the school and classroom Code of Conduct, school/district rules and guidelines for responsible technology use and the consequences for misuse as stated in the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
